AC/DC - Back In Black
13 June, 2007 - 05:14 pmThrough out my album purchasing career, I have come to realise that an album's popularity is seldom an indicator of whether I will like it or not. AC/DC's Back in Black is one that firmly breaks this particular trend. As the 5th highest selling album in the US and the 2nd highest world wide, this is clearly a popular album. This album is good enough to get 5/5 and a spot on my own personal top 10. My music taste does have a heavy rock slant and this for me is the pinnacle of rock 'n roll.
Tribe After Tribe - Love Under Will
23 May, 2007 - 05:12 pmMost of these reviews will have some form of anecdote about me and the band/album in question. With Tribe After Tribe I get a little closer to the actual band, firstly they were originally formed in South African, and secondly a good friend of mine once ate lots of magic mushrooms with Robbi Robb, the singer/guitarist/chief strategy officer for Tribe After Tribe.
Propellerheads - Decksanddrumsandrockandroll
21 April, 2007 - 05:37 pmAh the mighty Propellerheads . When I thought about doing this review I figured this album would definately be a 5/5. The album that brought "Spybreak!" and "Take California" has to be a 5. While the Propellerheads certianly helped bring big beat into the main stream, their debut (and pretty much only album) I discovered, is not quite as brilliant all the way through. Some of the songs could have used a bit more musical development and they feel a little cut and paste.
The Cramps - Fiends of Dope Island
8 March, 2007 - 07:59 amMy first encounter with The Cramps was in the late 1980's when I attempted to go to a Johannesburg night club that used the same name. After some research (non-Internet based, this is in the days before Google), I discovered that The Cramps were the band of choice for the sophisticated goth and/or alternative intellectual. You can read all about these psychobilly rockers here.
